Alestis Aerospace is a leading company in engineering and manufacturing technologies for the assembly of aerostructures, and one of the top three TIER 1 suppliers operating in Spain, with an international presence and major innovative projects. It participates in the most significant programs of the industry's largest manufacturers such as Airbus, Boeing, and Embraer, and has five production plants in Spain and one in Brazil.
Our Polaris system was developed by the company based on an analysis of the state of the art in the industry in terms of production management and in relation to the current level of penetration of IoT systems.
Alestis Aerospace did not have a comprehensive, distributed, multi-level solution to control production management in combination with the use of IoT systems and mechanisms. Furthermore, although reporting was continuous and processes were robust, it lacked real-time information on the progress of the production flow and the traceability of the different manufactured artefacts; it did not have real artificial intelligence mechanisms for decision-making; and it achieved a low level of automation at key points in the production flow, leading to a low use of the resources involved.
Faced with this scenario, we reached a collaboration agreement with the company for the development and implementation of our Polaris Industry product in their production plants as a means of improvement and solution to the problems raised.
Polaris Industry is essentially based on the integration of proximity technologies, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Big Data, all of which make up an Internet of Everything platform aimed mainly at improving production processes, increasing real-time control of their progress and status, and facilitating daily operations by the actors involved.
With Polaris, Alestis intends to take a step further towards the materialisation of a real Industry 4.0, in which the production management system is closely linked to IIoT performance, and where all the components that form part of the production process are connected, communicate and complement each other, with the human being at the centre of it all.
Alestis opted for a real transformation around Polaris, and under this circumstance from Sixphere we proposed a fully integrable architecture, extensible and adjustable to the Alestis software ecosystem, with the essential objective of making the most of the resources provided by all the pre-existing systems in the organisation and involved in the production process.
Through integrated production management at Alestis, the company now not only has a platform that automates and facilitates key points of its business processes, but also has a central tool focused on improving productivity and, therefore, on continuous improvement, which invariably leads to a constant increase in its competitiveness.
Polaris' use of the physical environment through IoT mechanisms brings clear and tangible benefits to production management beyond mere data collection, using the signals collected from the environment to calculate proximity events on operators, tooling or manufactured instruments, give them specific meaning within the business flow of the client organisation and automate key points of their business process through them.
It also makes available to the end user, through usable and mobility-oriented interfaces, real-time reports and information on both the current status of the production process (work progress, times incurred, deviations, etc.) and the situation of the production plant (heat maps, location, etc.).
It was an ambitious milestone within the reach of few projects and startups associated with the sector, and also a more than ideal scenario for the development and expansion of the system that eventually led to Polaris' first success.
From this collaboration, Sixphere participates permanently in the maintenance of this already implemented system and continues its international expansion with the incorporation of new clients. Do you want to know more? Please feel free to contact us.
